What is the Governance Barometer?
The Governance Barometer
The purpose of the Governance Barometer is to host a geographically visualised repository of news articles on issues relating to the scope of GGA’s research programmes. This serves to deepen researchers’ understanding of governance issues across Africa. Most importantly, it provides an opportunity for researchers to engage in a more critical assessment of the standard or mainstream reporting narrative. The strength of the GB is that it:
- Acts as an early warning system to potentially predict and track events of governance significance.
- Tracks rising tensions in regions to empower anticipatory governance and prevent explosive situations
- Will assist with root cause analysis, which is a substantive limitation for many researchers, which in turn serves to produce stronger policy recommendations.
- Offers a real-time overview of developments relevant to all our GGA programmes playing out in the SADC region.
